God centered marriages....

Just this week, I read that another celebrity marriage "bit the dust". After eight years of marriage, Josh Brolin and Diane Lane decided to file for divorce. Josh recently starred in "Men in Black" with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. Diane starred in the "Secretariat" and "Unfaithful" for those who don't know their work.

Anyhoo..their cinematic work is besides the point for today's blog. The thing is, I am so sad, and tired actually, of reading about the demise of marriages. Even sadder is that the percentage of divorces is just as high with Christians as it is with non-Christians. I believe it is about 60% at this point. Sad...

Marriage is not for the faint of heart folks. I should know because I am a divorcee myself. Unfortunately many of us women focus on being honored with an engagement ring. Then there are the subsequent wedding preparations. Which leaves very little time to think about the marriage afterwards. Hence the high divorce rate..

You cannot "wing it" in marriage, folks! For marriage to be successful you HAVE to put GOD first. There are couples where spirituality is not important and they have been miraculously successful. However, to endure the pitfalls and tribulations of life you need to have a strong foundation in Christ. That is the only to way to go...had I followed my own advice, I probably would've still been married today. Ah well...moving forward and not looking behind.

So my advice for those of you dating and engaged couples, ensure that your significant others have an intimate relationship with God. With God on your side, your marriage will be successful.

Until next time...
